optavia review - 18 things you need to know
optavia weight loss programs promise “lifelong transformation, one healthy habit at a time.” while this diet system is said to encourage healthy daily habits, the optavia weight loss programs rely primarily on expensive, pre-packaged, processed foods.
most health experts agree that eating real, whole foods is the key to lasting weight management. can a program that is based on “proprietary products and programs” genuinely offer permanent results?
our research team decided to find out. we researched optavia’s programs, studied the pre-packaged food ingredients, explored the science behind the claims, and summarized all the data.
optavia can be purchased through their official site.
optavia video review
what is optavia?
optavia offers a comprehensive weight management program designed to facilitate weight loss through a provision of nutrient-dense meals and dedicated support. the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 ’s diet plans are extensive and reportedly incorporate guidance from expert optavia coaches, a variety of recipes for crafting wholesome dishes, specially-formulated fuelings, and ongoing encouragement from an active community.
when we checked out the three main ingredients used in optavia products, we found:
- journal of nutrition and metabolism – fiber works to reduce calorie intake, possibly by helping you feel full, so you eat less.
- nutrients – some research out there that claims protein intake, including the whey variety, may help with fat loss.
- sports (basel) – when whey is compared to pea protein, the two work similarly for body composition.

how did optavia start and who’s behind it all?
optavia is the new brand for the take shape for life (tsfl) meal-replacement programs starting in 2016. take shape for life began as a product of medifast, inc. in 1980.
thus, the standard reference to the program is medifast optavia. the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 ’s location is 100 international drive, 18th floor, baltimore, md 21202, and it has been voted by forbes as one of the 100 most trustworthy companies in america. as of september 2022, the business is not accredited with the bbb, but they have earned an “a+” rating. despite 121 customer reviews with an average score of 1.5/5 stars, this rating was given.
they have now expanded to singapore and hong kong.
optavia connect
optavia connect is the program used for optavia’s coaches. these coaches are able to recommend and sell products for optavia.

what are the basic optavia claims?
optavia claims that diet plans and programs are established to provide a “lifelong transformation.” based on the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 ’s claims, this “lifelong transformation” will be implemented using “one healthy habit at a time,” which means new habits are adopted gradually. even the logo has been designed to express the idea of “lifelong transformation.”
currently available optavia products and diet plans
now that you have discovered a little bit about the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 and its claims, we should go further and talk about optavia products. these products are meant to help you lose weight quickly and in a safe way while being assisted by health coaches.
since optavia deals with diet programs, products are provided as complex weight management plans:
- optimal weight 5 & 1 plan
- optimal weight 4 & 2 & 1 plan
- optimal health 3 & 3 plan
optavia also sells various kits, like purposeful hydration, to help you stay hydrated and learn when hydration is needed. (this kit is no longer listed on the official website as of september 2023.)
optavia products are sold through coaches as part of a multi-level marketing program. coaches are men and women who buy into the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 or product and then sell to others. the real money in the program comes from recruiting people to sell under you. coaches earn money from personal sales and recruit sales. the process repeats, and the base of the structure grows wide, looking like a pyramid. this is why mlms are often considered synonymous with pyramid schemes.
optavia foods: essential fuelings and select fuelings
meals included in optavia’s approved list (and fuelings) are smoothies, shakes, soups, drinks, crunchers, brownies, and bars. the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 claims that its food should provide sufficient calories and nutrients to feel satiated and, at the same time, to lose weight.
some of the foods offered by optavia include:
- cranberry honey nut granola bar
- drizzled berry crisp bar
- chocolate shake mix
- spinach pesto mac and cheese
- sweet potatoes with brown sugar and cinnamon
- buttermilk cheddar herb biscuit
- cinnamon crunchy o’s cereal
- jalapeno cheddar poppers
optavia fuelings hacks
there are many individuals that want to follow the optavia meal plan but feel limited by the food options. however, there are many who use “fuelings hacks” to create new food recipes.
for example, optavia shared one recipe for a chocolate milkshake that used their double chocolate brownie, fudge pudding, and chocolate shake. when these three products were blended with a few other chocolate-based ingredients, users were able to hack their way into new optavia recipes.
optavia fuelings kits
each program developed by optavia includes meals and health coach support along with optavia fuelings kit. each fueling kit holds an extensive range of products.
for example, suppose you choose to order the favorites kit. in that case, you receive dark chocolate coconut curry bar, wild blueberry almond hot cereal, chia bliss smoothie, buttermilk cheddar herb biscuit, or chocolate cherry ganache bar.
optavia bars are included in each package of fuelings. you choose from honey chili cranberry nut bar, dark chocolate coconut curry bar, drizzled chocolate fudge crisp bar, caramel delight crisp bar, and raisin oat cinnamon crisp bar.
optavia food ingredients added to support weight loss
optavia ingredients aren’t like a supplement, but the foods do tend to contain some of the same ingredients, such as:
fiber
fiber is a carbohydrate found in plant foods. it is the nutrient from vegetables and fruits that can’t be digested. insoluble and soluble are the two types of fiber. fiber can be used in a weight loss diet for appetite management because it slows the digestive process, so you feel fuller, longer.
additional research in the journal nutrients concluded “the potential benefits of…fibre in controlling frequency of eating and in weight loss.” however, the journal of the american college of nutrition found that most fiber supplements were not able to reduce appetite.
monk fruit
monk fruit is a perennial vine originating from china and thailand. it has been used as a sugar replacement and is about 300 times sweeter than sugar. according to the iranian journal of pharmaceutical research, monk fruit extract helped reduce fatigue in mice.
inulin
the soluble fiber inulin is found in a multitude of plants. that said, chicory root contains the largest quantity of inulin. inulin can also be found in foods and supplements, such as cereal bars, yogurts and protein bars. according to the american journal of clinical nutrition, “inulin-type fructans (itfs) are a type of fermentable dietary fiber that can confer beneficial health effects through changes in the gut microbiota…[and] leads to beneficial modifications of the gut microbiota composition and function.”
whey protein
the journal of the american college of nutrition examined the effects of whey protein and concluded current literature supported the use of whey protein as a part of a weight loss/maintenance plan or with resistance exercises.
pea protein
pea protein may help with building muscle, according to research published in sports (basel). the journal of the international society of sports nutrition concluded the use of pea protein promoted gains in the thickness of the biceps.

it should be noted that these are the claimed benefits as stated by the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 , and individual experiences may vary. results can depend on factors such as program adherence, personal health, metabolism, and lifestyle choices.
optavia and weight loss: isn’t that the point?

potential optavia side effects
the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 claims that there are no optavia side effects to be concerned with outside of basic hunger. no matter how meal plans are set up, dieters will likely feel hungry only because they’re reducing calorie intake and meal size. as the stomach shrinks, hunger often subsides, and your everyday meals are the new norm for your stomach.
optavia product warnings
people who are using prescription medications should talk to their physician, and only after that, should they use supplements. also, those who have various allergies or food intolerances must be careful when choosing their fuelings.
optavia lawsuits and the better business bureau
searching on the internet for any lawsuits against optavia left us empty-handed. but we identified two cases involving the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 suing someone else. the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 brought these lawsuits against barry minkow and william lobdell for defamation, but they lost the two lawsuits in the end.
there is a better business bureau file for optavia llc. the business is not accredited, and it’s earned 1.5 stars out of 5 from 121 customer reviews. as of september 2023, there have been 391 complaints closed in the last 3 years, and 32 complaints closed in the last 12 months.
optavia reddit reviews
consumers flock to reddit to find information about everything from dog breeds to television shows. they even head to the popular platform to learn more about supplements, pre-workouts, and meal replacements. reddit is so popular viewers watch nearly 1.4 billion videos on the site each month. we researched optavia reddit to see what everyone is talking about.
we found good optavia product reviews and those that weren’t great. a bunch of people had concerns about how effective optavia actually is for weight loss and how soon users would start to see results. they also were not fans of the flavor and consistency of the drink.
what users are saying
“theses shakes are delicious. the flavor is great with no chalky aftertaste. i was able to lose over 50 lbs on this program and kept it off for over 2 years.”
“the chocolate mint bar is smooth, crunchy, not overly minty, and tastes like a girl scout cookie. i do not feel like i am missing out on anything when i eat one. it feels like i am eating dessert.”
“i tried to do optavia’s plan and i simply couldn’t do it because their products are just so fake. this jalapeño poppers have an after taste that it’s really bad to me. if you like them, it’s good because at least it’s a big portion and you will feel full.”
the bottom line on medifast optavia
on the plus side, medifast optavia offers a wide assortment of food choices. you get daily coaching and inspiration from experts to help you stay on track. but you must consider whether or not you’re willing to stick to a diet plan like this for the long term. a few things that concerned us include, numerous user complaints about the taste of the food, which cost around $300 to $500 a month and processed shakes and bars are not very healthy in the long run.
optavia provides a structured meal plan for those seeking weight loss through portion control and balanced nutrition. while some users find success with the program, the reliance on processed, packaged meals might not appeal to everyone. before investing, potential users should weigh the cost, consider their dietary preferences, and perhaps explore other alternatives.

optavia did not work for me, i’m afraid. i was gassy, bloated and miserable within a day, i suspect because of the artificial sweeteners which were plentiful in some of the products i chose. i needed things that did not require microwaving for my lifestyle, and the bars had a great deal of sorbitol, etc., known to cause these symptoms. i had a rough time reaching someone to get a return label and number, over six hours to get to a person. i’m personally a fan of eating clean and healthy, but admittedly am a lazy cook with little time to prep, so this seemed like a good option. might work for others, but i’m back to healthy eating and portion control.

i have loosely been on the optavia 5 & 1 plan since thanksgiving 2018 (it is now march 2019….so almost 4 months). i have lost about 30 pounds because i have intentionally not followed the plan strictly. i did that for a month and lost so much weight that my abdominal skin started to sag. i am 53 years old, so my skin is not as elastic as it used to be 🙂 what i do like about the program is that it is easy and convenient. i am very busy and travel a lot for work. it is easy to just pack bars and eat them on the run or in hotel rooms. and the program does work. look – i was losing weight too fast for my liking! i will likely continue this program on my own terms until i lose another 50 pounds. however….i have some real problems with the way this program is promoted. i am a member of their facebook support community, and every time i get on there i just want to scream. first of all, their “expert health coaches” are not experts at all. they are just people who have lost weight and now make money selling the product to others. they have a vested interest in keeping people on the program because that is how they make money. also…and this may be my biggest issue…almost every “expert health coach” would have you believe that their life was just miserable and going nowhere when they were heavier. they sell this idea that you cannot possibly be happy or healthy (mentally or physically) or successful if you are overweight. this type of promotion is outright ridiculous and even dangerous. as a person who recovered from an eating disorder (as a teenager) – and who has worked in the health profession and higher education over 25 years with a doctoral degree – i can tell you that research shows not all overweight people are mentally/physically unhealthy. as a human being, i know plenty of overweight people who have tons of friends and who are financially and professionally successful and happy. i would have a lot more respect for this program if the health coaches did not push the idea that optavia is going to magically transform people’s lives into a wonderland filled with rainbows and unicorns and pots of gold. the program is simply a weight loss program. period.

i wanted to return a shipment my 84 year old father received and have spent the last week and 1/2 trying to call the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 .. every time i call no matter what time of day i receive a message that they are having an unusually large number of calls. the 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 only allows 30 days to return a product but you can’t return a product without the rma number. an rma number cannot be done through the internet it must be done by calling optavia. if this is not the type of customer service you want then you should seriously consider looking at another 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 ..

i stayed on optavia for 6 months and lost 50 lbs- the best thing for me is that is it easy, no counting carbs or calories 5:1 is a no brainer for busy people.the bad thing is no alcohol as i love wine. unfortunately once a let alcohol back into my life the habits of health did not stay with me and i rather quickly gained it back and that really stinks because losing the weight felt great. so i have been back on the diet for 1 week and starting to see the scale going down. it is all about choices, that is something i learned from my coach- nobody can lose weight for you -honestly most of my fuelings are chocolate-..it is not impossible for anyone to adhere to this diet plan and i am so looking forward to gaining back that feeling of living in a healthy mind and body….that’s my story!!!!

after owning a gym membership for 10 years this december, i’ve finally found something that i don’t need to break a sweat – or really exercise at all! – and lose weight in a healthy proven way! i’ve lost 54 lbs in just over 3 months and got so much more energy. i thought it was going to be expensive, but i’m not needing to eat out as often. i have great awesome support because i have a free health coach! she is awesome! and she brought me to a great support page with lots of tips and tricks from those who are also health minded. i’m learning health habits and really changing my lifestyle. i am making all the types of lean and green meals that i want. and i have support who will help convert it for me if i want to. and if i want to go off plan and do something else, that’s ok! why does a diet have to be rocket science!?!? it doesn’t.
there is no program out there that teaches you to transition off their fuelings. like seriously! you can do that! i can’t wait to transition when i reach my goals and now that i have all the tools after 3 months, i know what i can and cannot do and how my body reacts to it. you can only get that from all the great components of this program.

i absolutely love the optavia program. after trying several different programs and yo-yo dieting through my 40’s, at age 49 i finally found this program and it works! i started in january 2017 and lost 92 pounds in 10 months. and completely transformed my life. i loved the simple convenience of the foods – made it easy to follow and stay on track – and the rapid but safe and effective weight loss kept me motivated, along with weekly calls from my personal health coach. the support and community was also great. i learned how to identify and change my habits and have kept the weight off for almost a whole year now. does it cost? yes, but do do your groceries, convenience foods, unnecessary snacks and drinks, unused gym memberships and doctor and medical bills. so i choose to spend my money on an investment in my own health instead, and i couldn’t be happier. even in my 50’s – with two kids and hypothyroidism – i now weigh the same as when i was a high school athlete! and i feel great!
does anyone complain of rash and skin itching while on octavia? please let me know because im in my second week and i noticed the itching which is getting worst too.

i have been using these products since 2012(i joined medifast then, and lost 50 lb); recently, optivia has “taken over” the medifast centers, and everything is changing- the biggest(worst)change is they took the products out of the centers, and we all have to order shipments to last a month!it takes away all the chance to try a different product on the spur of the moment-we humans are very impulsive! if, for example, another member mentions they love the caramel bars or whatever, we now miss out on the chance to just pick up a box to try! can “corporate” explain why this is better? i bet some folks will quit rather than feel pressured to buy so much at once!
i am a four month member now and this is the only downer i have come up with. i have to wait to try something new. ?
optavia does not charge for coach support, the only thing you pay for is the food. the new model has much higher long-term weight loss maintenance and why the centers are being phased out. you do not need to order a full month of food. the optavia plan is much more affordable than the medifast center and is also much more comprehensive. in addition, optavia has a clean label. medifast does not.
you will get charged for shipping if your order is not a certain amount
yeah $5… you would pay more in gas driving to pick it up
no, more like 19.95….
oh it’s more than $5
it’s only $5. i am doing optavia. if you expedite shipping it is more like $20.
if you do not get a certain amount of there food it can be 19.95. which is what you do when you start to lose the weight.
if you order less food it can be 20.00 in shipping.
my first order was over $400 and i paid $19.95 shipping on top of that.
somehow you did not select the premier option. it’s totally free and non-binding, and over $250 is free shipping, plus rewards of 10% on next order.
if you signed up as a premier rewards member, you would have paid nothing for shipping. then as an existing client, as long as your order is $250 + shipping is still free. $150-249.99 you pay $5 flat rate shipping and under $150 you pay full shipping. if you are 5&1 full program, you are spending $250 or more a month.

i lost 48.5 pounds in 4 months and am now in transition and plan to become a health coach, immediately. i loved the bars, soup, potatoes, brownies and other items and will miss them when i finish transition. i probably will keep some things for emergencies. i began it because of back pain and want to coach to help others reach their healthy weight and to stay in community so the weight will continually stay off because of that
pay-it-forward accountability. it’s a mindset adjustment and lifetime commitment. i believe people put weight back on because they don’t stay involved with others in this endeavor.
you plan to become a “health coach”. so what kind of training does one go through to become a health coach with this 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 ?
tiffany as a health coach a person has to become certified as a health coach through villanova university mcdonald center for obesity prevention and education. it’s an extensive online course the coach pays for out of pocket. through certification and having been on plan the certified health coach understand nutrition, health and how to make their clients successful like they were. they just don’t do the sign of the cross and make you a health coach.
this is incorrect. you don’t have to go through any training to become a health coach. you pay the approximately $200 for your coaching kit and start signing up clients. i was literally on the program for a couple weeks and talked into becoming a coach to “pay it forward”. you can become certified as a health coach which does help your knowledge and ability to “sell” the products but you don’t need any training at all. really what you are getting in a coach is a cheerleader and accountability partner. the “pay it forward” hook it just a way to get people to get hyped up to become a coach.
if you follow the program, you will lose weight and fast. but that’s primarily because you are eating around 1000-1100 calorie per day. it’s convenient and easy especially with someone who has a very busy schedule. however, in the long term this program is not healthy for you because the food is processed and doesn’t taste all that great. when you start to transition back to real food, you have to be really careful not to over indulge because you are actually tasting real food again. plus you are eating a normal amount of calories.
long story – this will help you lose the weight in the short run, but unless you want to spend $400 per month for the rest of your life, just eat real healthy food and workout.
i find your insights beneficial to those who don’t know what they’re getting into.certification through optavia’s third party affiliate doesn’t guarantee that coaches are knowledgeable in nutrition or as dietitians.they do however promote their products…nutritionists have a valid degree to recommend diet changes and foods, not a wellness coach!
none. i had been on plan 2 weeks and they were recruiting

i just started the program and although the food isn’t great, the program is easy to follow, which is crucial for me. i am very busy and the fuelings help when you’re on the run. additionally, the book that the kit comes with, provides a great philosophy on the way we should see food and our ultimate goals. rather than thinking about what you’re not getting or eating, it helps you understand that it is important to focus on what your ultimate goal is, which is to get healthier. i’m in my 40’s and it is not going to get any easier from here. i am accepting of the fact that i can no longer eat the foods i ate when i was in my 20’s (:-( i am a huge fan of food!). i mean, come on people, we need to face the facts! if i want to avoid diabetes and other disease’s, i’m going to have to make a change; and while i’m not a big fan of the food, i’m looking at the bigger picture and making a sacrifice. sometimes we have to do things in our lives that we may not enjoy, but when we look at the bigger picture of where we want to be or the results we want to produce, then eating the fuelings is worth it.
so do you plan on doing optavia forever to avoid “diabetes and other diseases”? or, have you learned how to incorporate portion control and food choices after doing this program?
i have also used this program, loving the philosophy so much, i’ve begun coaching as well. the transition period phases out the meal replacements one at a time for meals we make. yes, i learn portion control, how to food shop and eat a balanced, fresh while food diet. the program explicitly states they do not want clients using the food forever. the food is simply meant to be a tool to help establish a new routine in the least overwhelming way possible.
i am in total agreement with you maria. i am 52 and it does not get easier, you are correct. i am one month in. i have lost weight. i am very busy so the fuelings are very convenient. this is not a sustainable plan, for me anyway. i have always ate pretty well and worked out, however i needed a little help and decided to try this out. i am doing good however i will not be doing this plan forever.

unfortunately optavia was not for me, i developed horrible headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal issues with the fuelings. the taste of the food takes some getting used to and whereas most items were ok, there were some that we extremely unappetizing such as the oatmeal which was like eating frothy protein. many of the items had a bad aftertaste and the program did not feel as though you were satisfied with the feel of consuming real food. the actual program and life changing aspect of it is well developed it’s a difficult program to adhere to.
i have been on optavia it for 5 days the food doesn’t taste great but it’s doable, unfortunately for me, i have had intestinal problems along with cramping, gas and heartburn. will give it a couple more days, but i am feeling uncomfortable. has anyone experienced these side effects?
i’m an optavia coach and client and have lost over 100 lbs so far with this 2022足球世界杯德国队分组 . your body is in detox the first several days. as you stick closely to the program, those problems should go away. if there is a fueling you dislike, give it a week and try it again. the oatmeal that i first thought tasted like paste on day 1 is something i reorder often now. your body is addicted to the poor nutrition and carbs; once you get your body cleaned up from that, everything tastes better and you may find veggies you didn’t care for before are now something you enjoy. this program is way more than a diet and has changed my life. blessings on your journey. if you stick with it and plug in to your coaches and the community, you will reap the rewards of transformed health.
the symptoms didn’t get better, so i stopped using the product. optavia is not for me, my body didn’t like it. i have been off it for over a week and my system is back to normal. i ended up returning the product and i didn’t get a full refund. it was disappointing in every way.
i worry about the amount of gluten and soy in it. i have thyroid issues and optavia had me exhausted. i have to avoid foods that can mess with my endochrine system. i worry about the coaches saying push through it and not telling clients to consult a dr or dietician.
consulting with a doctor or even a dietitian is about as good as talking to your two year old child about nutrition. first of all what they are teaching in the schools is to keep us sick and secondly what they are not teaching us is to keep us sick. so why even bother consulting with anybody in the medical field??? they have proven themselves to be not trustworthy and we have lost our faith in them. they don’t even tell us about the fungal diseases being the cause of the majority of our health problems. predominantly the candida fungal disease that is the most predominant pathogen the cause of the majority of our health problems.
so you are you suggesting a health coach who only a few months ago was an avon salesperson knows more about nutrition than a dietician or one’s own physician?
i worry about this too. you most def need to speak with your doctor.
yessss! i am in the same boat! my order was supposed to be all gf, and wasn’t, and then nearly everything has soy. i’m ok with eating soy as long as its 3 hours after my meds, but they didn’t send me a single thing that i can have within 1/2 of getting up and taking meds. i pushed through and tried a few shakes in the morning and i feel sooooo sluggish. been on plan for 2 weeks now, and between the tired feeling and my angry bowels, i’m about to throw in the towel!
if you are looking for a plan that is truly healthy and you can still have fruit and healthy bread. find me on facebook , liz day washington. i’d love to have a conversation with you.l
there are specific things your health coach should have gone over with you if you have thyroid issues. did you go through a coach or just order online? (if you have ordered). i’m a health coach and would suggest running the plan by your doctor to put your mind at ease. my person physician said this is a great program and witnessed a lot of healthy transformations. do what makes you feel best!
what symptoms did you have?
i had a hard time trying to adjust as well and had nausea and it elevated my blood pressure. my coach advised to quit taking it. there has to be a better way to lose weight ( how about real wholesome food)
i have been on the 5 and 1 since october and was going great and loving it so i became a coach. for about the last 4 weeks, i have been have extreme gas. to the point i try to avoid people which is impossible. it is very embarrassing and tmi…smelly. i am taking enzymes and probiotics, drinking lots of water, exercising, only using optavia and not medifast (which didn’t seem to matter), i tried avoiding soy, didn’t matter. tried avoiding gluten, didn’t matter. tried avoiding products containing sugar alcohols, didn’t matter. i am at a loss of what to try next and don’t want to throw in the towel. the odd thing is it is happening to one of my clients as well, and i had not told her about my issue. any suggestions that i have not yet tried?
ideal protein i find is the best way to go. i think its better for you.
i’m having the same problem, too much sulphuric gas. pretty sure it’s dairy and whey. hate the sweetness of monk fruit.
hi jerri,
please make sure to contact your physician if you continue to experience side effects with this product
i am on my 4th week of optavia and i have lost 8 lbs and seems to be working for me but ive been having severe stinky gas the past few days. feeling bloated and constipated. don’t know how much longer i can do this. what did you end up doing if anything do you have any answers of why this is happening?
hi jamie,
please make sure to contact your physician if you continue to experience side effects with this product
i was worried about this as i have a problem digesting whey. that’s actually why i came to this site, to see if others have experienced problems. it sounds like it, which is disappointing for me.
i’ve had severe gi problems, gas, diarrhea. my concern is when making the fuelings, i spilled some pancake batter on my counter and i had to scrape it off with a knife. if it does this when it dry’s on a counter, what is it doing for our insides. food for thought…
leave a comment..i have spilled regular pancake batter on my counter, and have always had to scape it off with a knife. apparently you don’t cook pancakes to often. if you read the ingredients for optavia food its all natural with vitamins…food for thought!!!
where are you getting that optavia is
“all natural”??? just the oposite…it is all processed!!
same gas and constipation
any advice.
so uncomfortable
don’t want to have to take laxatives every fday
i would love to hear if you found any solutions. i just started 2 weeks ago and i am having the same issue.
i had to stop all together and so did two of my clients. gas subsided immediately.
hello,
please make sure to contact your physician if you continue to experience side effects with this product
i just started a couple days ago and have gas and using gasx chewable after a meal and it has helped.
hello,
please make sure to contact your physician if you continue to experience side effects with this product
that gets better… i had issues with that the first 3-4 days and then it slowly got better.
did not get better so far with me! week 5 and my stomach has been upset the entire time.
the same thing happened to me! have you tried no dairy?
it might be the chicory root
check to see if you have added any sugar alcohols . they can be in sugar free gum and some of the fuelings like the crisp bars. they usually end in ol (sorbitol, mannitol etc)
also xylitol. everyone should be getting their feelings through a coach and calling them when there is a problem. most teams have websites where these difficulties are discussed.
try avoiding all dairy. i’m lactose intolerant and i get gassy when i eat dairy. that’s the only symptom i have.
whey protein often gives people gas.
i have constant explosive diarrhea. i went off for awhile and go problems calmed down. now i am starting again a few days in. go problems back
have your gallbladder checked.
it’s the inulin. try fuelings that have little to no inulin.
how do we know which ones have insulin or not?
could it be the cauliflower or broccoli?
what is in the fuelings that detox’s your body?
hi jeanna i started yesterday and would like to lose 150 lbs. how long did it take you to lose the 100?
your body needs carbs to function.period. if you starve yourself, you will loose weight but its not a long term solution, period.
yes, very much so. i been on it 4 days. i have a lot of cramping, gas, diarrhea. food tastes not so good. i was hoping for little better taste.
anonymous,
on day 3 and yes, a lot of gas! my coach said she has never heard that issue…really? as i’m reading here it sounds like it’s an issue for many.
ive been on it a week and i started with headache gas and bloating, coacb told me to give it a while, started on ay 2 with diarrhea, (severe) became dehydrated and had to have fluids, im going to have to stop
yes, i’m on my 2nd week and i have headaches almost everyday and nausea half the days. i’ve also had gastrointestinal issues both constipation and now loose stools.
i started the program i’m on my 7th day and im having horrible headaches. i’m going to give it a few more days, but if the headaches don’t stop then i will stop the program.
i just finished day 10 have had terrible gas pains gir three days.i can hear the rumblings of gastrointestinal ..only thing that helps is walking. not fan of food other than a few bars . the mac and cheese never gets thick.the only “shake ” i enjoy is the chocolate.so i’m going to just do what i should have in first place eat small meals and exercising
i love optavia. when feeling hungry my coach explained to me a wonderful technique. drink 2 8 ounce glasses of water and wait 15 minutes. the hunger subsides plus i get i. my 100 ounces of my goal in water intake. water is key. drink 8 ounces of water 30 minutes prior to your fuelings. cuts out tummy troubles and helps your system adjust. if takes two weeks for your palate to adjust to the flavors. i lost 51 pounds and it has been one year 2 months since starting my journey. i love coaching and when i eat celebrating w unhealthy foods i have gained 8 to 10 pounds. if was my choice to eat the cake. it is also my choice to get right back on track and on. i actually lost 11 pounds more than my original goal. therefore, i am still happy w my 40+ pounds of weight loss. i feel better than ever. i love assisting my clients and they are having success as well.
i have to only have been on it for one day and i have a terrible headache and bloating and diarrhea! i hope it gets better
i discontinued eating their products due to severe gi issues, nausea, headaches and lethargy.their food doesn’t taste good either with the exception of a few bars. the only actual change one makes is from committing to one’s health without spending so much money on food that is tasteless and causes side effects.
tessa
i am having the same problem , my doctor is not familiar with this program but i have ibm and diverticulitis i was wondering should i stop this program? also if you did stop did you issues go away.
i have been on the program since aug 2020 and took a break in dec while on vacation. have been back on it and i complained to my coach about the horrible gas. said it will pass and it hasn’t. i don’t recall this issue before. it’s embarrassing.

i have had a great experience with optavia. yes, there are some foods that i am not a fan of but they are very few that i am not a fan of eating. i have even went back to ones that i initially did not like and i am eating them now. you have to give you taste buds time to adapt. i passed this program by my doctor before i started it and she gave me the go ahead. my other option was surgery (no thanks) or medicine (no thanks). i have been a dieter all my life but this program is much more than a diet. yes, i am eating shakes, bars, mashed potato, chili, oatmeal, pudding, soups, pasta, etc.) to get me through the day but i cook one lean and green meal a day. this has been the biggest win for me in this program. i have learned how to cook healthy meals which is something i never did well on other programs. the support on this program is amazing! i love having a health coach as i feel that was a huge reason why i succeeded on this program. this program will not be for everyone but i have been on this program since june 1 of last year and i am down 117lbs and counting. my doctor is extremely happy with my results. i feel the best i have felt in years. i learned it is not only about healthy eating, but about proper hydration, sleep, exercise, and how to deal with stress. you are not going to eat powdered food, shakes and bars for the rest of your life. you will go through transition and go to maintenance where you do not need to eat these foods any more if you so choose. yes, there is a cost but isn’t your health worth it? my health was worth every penny so i was willing to invest in it. i was spending way more money on fast food and junk food. i say give it a chance before you rule it out. speak with your doctor and if they give the go ahead try it for at least 30 days. i would not discredit any other programs because they did not work for me. you only get out of a program what you put into it. there a many reputable programs that i tried and they just did not work for me. i hope you find you healthy! 🙂
boom!
can you give me an estimate on how much you have spent on this program?
just remember to subtract your monthly food costs from the cost of the fuelings.
have you been doing optavia for over a year? do you prepare your own meals now or rely on the pre-packaged food to lose/maintain your weight?
i wanted to provide a quick update, i am now down 172lbs on optavia and have 23 more pounds to lose! i love the program and i enjoy coaching people to health! give the program a chance.
hi diane, how long have you been on optavia? congrats! great work
great job diane
yes!!! well said!! it’s been awesome for me also. the first few days i was having second thoughts, but once i got into fat burn, there was no stopping me! the community is wonderful, and now i’m paying it forward as a health coach.
wow!!! i just started it i am on day two. i want to lose the 100 pounds as my first goal and 50 more after that. how long did it take to lose the 117 pounds???? i am so happy for you.
marcie (verified purchase)
i’m on my first week of optavia30. i’m not sure i’m going to be able to make it through a month. i really don’t like very many of the products. they have too much of a cardboard taste. i also don’t agree with the percentage of fat on this diet and neither does my doctor. it’s too low in fat according to recent research.
then why in the world did you start this diet? so you could come here and give a 1 star rating and leave no useful feedback? you haven’t even given it 7 days yet. any diet takes 2-3 weeks.
??? week 1?
kim, at least marcie tried it. not every “diet program” is for everyone.
don’t be rude! marcie is entitled to her opinion at any stage of the process!
thank you- everyone is so quick to jump on the hate bandwagon instead of finding a solution for their challenge- if you really want to lose and get healthy you gotta go thru some uncomfortableness physically and mentally to change-
this diet sounds anything but healthy……..i know what healthy eating is and it’s most certainly not prepackaged processed food that’s for sure!! no wonder people arent feeling well……wouldn’t do this diet if someone payed me to do it!!!!
i’m on day 9 and have lost 9.3 pounds in my first 8 days. true some of the food isn’t the greatest but i enjoy some of it. and cooking healthy. for me the ease of having snacks ready to eat, and the ability to eat every 2-3 hours help me to not reach for miscellaneous bad food to munch on. that helps me stay on plan. i’m going to stick with it and see if i can lose another 50…
give yourself at least two weeks. your palate will adjust. i stand by my 1 year 2 month success. happy body and happy mind! coaching brings me new friends and i am so happy to pay it forward to others.
my wife and i have a friend who is a “health coach” (code name for “distributor”). our friend has lost weight on this plan, but she looks a little on the unhealthy side – kind of drawn and gaunt. one of the first things i noticed about this plan and the main reason we rejected it (other than the cost) is that it tries to be both low carb and low fat. i suspect this is done to appeal to people in the low carb and low fat camps, because as a diet strategy it’s just stupid.
kat (verified purchase)
i agree with some of the food is icky, but if you think about it, a person doesn’t go to a restaurant and expect to like everything on the menu….you get what you like. i stayed away from the ick and ate the yum…and people’s taste buds are so different! i liked the eggs, but another person hated them. cost: it is an investment. any diet program is. i like it because it is simple and i did lose 50 lbs on it. does a person get tired of “powder” foods? heck yeh, but it is only for a duration and not all of it is in powder form. i mean, people use hot cocoa mix, mashed potato flakes, flour, protein shakes on a regular basis. i did get tired and hungry at first, but that happens with all diets. after a few days, i felt good. if you do it right, it works well.
i agree. they all have the same nutrients fingerprint, so just pick what you like. and its not something you would do forever, literally use the tools to reach the weight loss goal and all along the program offers tools to teach you how to eat healthy, establishing good habits, and how to sustain ones weight. the first few days your body is craving sugar and all the regular food, the bad bacteria have links to cravings from studies i have read, so basically once you break past that your gonna be fueling the good bacteria to get back on track. i would suggest fermented veggies and foods for getting good bacteria. but certainly like you said, complaining about taste, we all have different taste buds,…find what you like. i think they will even trade back stuff you don’t like for the ones you do. i love the support team, the encouragement, and that it offers a healthy way to reach your health and weight goals. all along giving you everything you need to learn to be healthier and have better quality of life and help others. i do wish it costed less, for the sake of so many i know that would love to try but just cannot seem to afford it. but it is only a period of time, you are investing in yourself and your health, and there are so many benefits. but also i think if you don’t make any investment, the motivation for you to stick to it and use the program wouldn’t be as much of a drive. like i bought this so i need to stick to it and then having all the encouragement with this program is so helpful, having all these people who have had great results or that are starting their journey to lean on and befriend!
seriously considering this plan.i know of 2 people that have lost weight on it and are doing fine.
do it! though a bit costly, it is the only thing i have done in 40 years that gave such good result. down 30 pounds so far.
i feel the naysayers think that all we’re eating is powder foods / bars. but i have a homemade meal every night. last night it was grilled salmon and steamed broccoli. tonight i’m making veggie pizza with a cauliflower crust. this plan is an investment, but comparatively, before i started optavia, during an average work week i spent $10 a day at starbucks (breakfast sandwich or oatmeal + a high calorie coffee drink) and at least $10 a day for lunch (sandwich / drink), $20 x 5 days = $100 a week x 4 weeks a month = $400. that didn’t even account for the money i spent at the grocery store every week buying pre-packaged “diet” foods and other stuff that was enabling my weight. now i order the items that i like through the plan. (after the initial month, you decide what and how much to order). i’ve learned a lot about food, food prep and reading labels and at the grocery store, i’m making healthier choices and i’ve actually saved about $200 each month. and i still go to starbucks a few time a week. i’ve been on the plan since dec 2018 and i’ve lost 25 lbs.
linda cunningham
i am allergic to milk protein can optics help me
hi linda,
this product does not contain dairy and could help. however, we recommend to consult your physician to find the right product for you.
it has whey protein which is dairy…
yes it does.
whey is dairy
there is milk & eggs in many of the fuelings

ootavia has helped me lose 40 lbs in a short period of time. the food is actually really good tasting! and there are so many options. $12-14/day is actually a savings when you think about cutting out coffee, breakfest and lunch out and pills to manage your health problems because of obesity
laura,
you don’t eat breakfast or lunch with optavia?
i think she means eating them “out” at a restaurant or drive -thru.
you do, but it’s part of the food you buy. i think laura means you don’t have to buy lunch and spend money on medication once you lose the weight, so the $12-14 is actually less than you pay for breakfast and lunch and any medication you’re taking because of obesity (if that’s what you currently do).
patricia herrington (verified purchase)
optavia is great. the food tastes great and is easy as pit to follow.
i agree. the bars are all tasty, in my opinion. the shakes, even though made with water, are also creamy and tasty! i love the oatmeal and crunchy o’s hard cereal. i take them to work every day and have breakfast there. i have a thermos of cold water and drink a 16 oz. decaf coffee during the day. even the cinnamon sugar sticks (snack item) are tasty! i have no problem with the “taste” of the food. i have more of a problem making the lean ‘n green meal because i am tired at the end of the day and wish i had a cook at home, waiting for me with my meal. lol. the brownie with yogurt chips is a nice little dessert, too. and i also cheat…..it’s hard not to, especially on the weekend. i have lost 20 pounds in 2 months.
i take a day and cook up recipes that i like and freeze my servings in individual containers, then when i’m tired at night, all i have to do is take a meal out of the freezer and heat it up.
ronnie (verified purchase)
just wanted to give my own personal feedback on the fuelings. i’ve been on the program for 3 weeks and i honestly haven’t tasted one item that tasted like cardboard. there were a couple shakes i wasn’t a fan of but even those were not awful. the cool thing is that they have so many other options in their site that i can try instead. overall, after 3 weeks, i’ve lost 11 pounds and am absolutely blown away at how easy it is and how i truly don’t feel hungry. i literally have to set my clock on my phone to remind me to eat every 2.5 hrs. very excited about my next order! i would absolutely recommend trying it for 30 days to see how it works for you.
which plan did you start with ?
needed the positive comment- i will be starting this week ?. i have never tried any kind of program. my goal is energy. simple but difficult to obtain as i am. wt. loss is greatly needed.
i am starting also and afraid of the big investment
i am finishing my second week. i was afraid of the cost too. but i have done weight watchers, nutrisystem… and everything else under the sun and none of them worked for me. when i look back, it’s because i was looking at them as a quick fix. on optavia, i am slowly learning to alter my eating habits and relationship with food. i am sure it isn’t the only structure or program out there that can help with relationships with food, but it’s the only one that has truly worked for me. i notice now that if i don’t have a water in my hand, i start to get headaches. i can now order a salad from somewhere and not feel like i am being cheated out of the hamburger. don’t get me wrong… i have a very long way to go. but you can’t put a price on the value of health. for me… it’s so worth it. in fact, i probably spend less money on food now than i did before. coffee, lunch, dinners out, lots of drinks…. snacks…. i know i was blowing through at least $100 week just on drive throughs and coffee. just eliminating that has paid for my fuelings. not gonna lie though… the first three days were pure hell for me. i was detoxing like crazy… headache, agitated, nauseas, angry, tired, weak… and hungry… or at least what i though was hungry. i have come to learn that i have been reading my body signals all wrong. i have a toxic relationship with food. it’ll take me a while before i am ready to spread my wings and transition from the 5&1 plan. 😉 but worth every penny for me. good luck with your decision.
i am on day 6 right now and appreciate your feedback.
i have been on plan for a little over 5 weeks and have lost 31 lbs and i feel great but after i reach my plan im getting off i ve been researching on foods that will maintain my weight i have 17 lbs to go i wont go back to sugars any more i have so much more energy
that is quite a bit in a short time. are you male or female? men tend to lose faster. did you stay perfectly to the plan, or any tips you can provide? i am waiting for my first shipment, and in a way feel concerned about the calorie limits (it is actually the amount required for toddlers). and hair loss! i will give it a try, and maybe if it works, use it for a short time, then jump back to ww. at least i knew what was in my food, and i did not have the gastro ailments like i am reading on here.
i’ve loved reading your post, mimi. i too have tried way too many quick fixes and as i embark on this optavia journey i’m very hopeful to change my relationship with food. thank you for your wisdom.
thanks, this is what i needed to hear to erase my fears. i just signed up, yet to receive my shipment, but am anxious and nervous at the same time. my goal is to lose the weight so i can run again, its so hard with this tummy in the way. i love to run and want that feeling again.
how did it go for you tami? any increase in energy since you starte?
tami,
i am 72 almost 73 and it will be one month monday and i am down 17 lbs. i am like most of the others and have tried almost every diet available. this is working great for my busy lifestyle. i will agree that there were some products that i did not like, but i tried them another way and was amazed how i liked them. for example, cinnamon sticks that i now eat with my morning coffee. i still have 50 lbs to loose but my friend and coach has lost over 130 lbs in a year. oh you were looking for more energy. well i have more energy and feel better than i have felt in a long time. all the best on your journey!!!
unfortunately optavia was not for me, i developed horrible headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal issues with the fuelings. the taste of the food takes some getting used to and whereas most items were ok, there were some that we
i too tried optavia. it was actually working fir me- lost about 10 lbs in 5 months. but then, i started having major digestive issues. i had constant gas and bloated feeling. i never had diarrhea but my stomach hurt all the time. when i asked my coach if anyone else had these issues, she said, “no, never!”
since then, i have heard from several friends and read a few testimonials of others who had similar issues. my thyroid level also plummeted.
i’ve been off it for about six months now and am just now beginning to feel somewhat normal as far as my energy level and digestive issues are concerned.
i’m on day 8 and have just started having lots of excess gas, stomach aches, and diarrhea. i’m afraid i can’t continue on this. i need real food, not processed food.
i agree about needing real food. my coach keeps insisting the food is real and not overly processed. i feel pressured by her. i committed to doing this for 1 month then reevaluating the program. if you google doing optavia with real food there are suggestions to be had.
i’m waiting on my fueling. just signed up. i have read the pros and cons. i pray my investment will prove beneficial. i’m in at $400.00.
i have been on the 5-1 plan for 3 months and agree with ronnie. i just read through all the comments above and it made me realize that for me at least i think the water intake or lack of it has a lot to do with the gas and bowel issues. i was faithfully drinking 8 plus glasses of water spread throughout the day until a week or so ago. i have been slacking off on my water and i am experiencing gas and loose bowels just in the last week. your comments have helped me figure out that getting back on plan with a minimum of 64 oz of water intake will probably resolve that issue. i have lost 26 pounds and i too have to set alarms to make sure i am eating every 2.5 to 3 hours. lean and greens can require a lot of cooking or they can be very simple. when i’m tired i love the easy 1/2 c ff cottage cheese, 1 hb egg and 1/2 c plain greek yogurt paired with 1 1/2 cups of vegetable. it fills me up and takes about 5 minutes to prepare. my coach is awesome and has taught me a lot about making it easier. she does a cook day and prepares her lean and greens in advance trying lots of different lean and green recipes for a lot of variety. she is married, working full time and has 4 and 6 year old little boys that are involved in several activities. we all have to remember that dreams only work if we do so i am a fan of the plan and the small amount of work involved is worth it for me
don’t like it… was a huge mistake! “food” (powdered ick) is just nasty. bars are ok…probably some of the best i have tried…shakes are better too… but the powered “food” is just horrible! worst of all, i am stuck with some of the boxes of “food” that i don’t like… big expensive mistake! probably no guarantee of money back either!
no you’re not stuck. if you try a food item you don’t like you can switch it out for something else. they understand not everyone will like all the options, but so far most we liked. definitely changes your taste buds but in a good way.
thank you eric!!! many people don’t know this. the comment you made probably persuaded many people to try this diet
you can switch out the things you don’t like? i have a handful of items in my first shipment that i’m not very excited about, but i thought i was stuck with them.
you can return boxes for a full refund within 30 days as long as there is at least 5 fuelings remaining. you pay the return shipping. i love this program. i lost 95 pounds in 10 months and changed my entire life. i worked with a personal health coach and learned healthy habits. the fuelings are fantastic, and and many have said, your taste buds change once you adjust to the plan and get into fat burn. no hunger or cravings and soaring energy!
that is a lie. i returned something within 30 days and they refused to exchange or return it. it took them three weeks to actually open the box i sent. i cancelled my membership immediately. the south beach diet is just as effective for me and much more flexible. less expensive, and seems healthier than eating a bunch of factory produced chemical-type food.
not a lie. it’s a fact if you return within 30 days and there are at least 5 fuelings remaining in the box. optavia fuelings are first in class. south beach products are no less processed than optavia. besides, optavia is not a diet.
not a full refund for mine and almost all boxes were unopened.
rachelle,
did optiva provide the personal health coach?
yes, all clients get a health coach. if you don’t know one that you want to request, you will get assigned a health coach. the key is to use your health coach. don’t ignore them, they are key and do not judge if you have a bad day. i love being a coach.
leave a comment…yes they provide you with a health coach. i am a certified health coach with optavia
you can return what you didn’t use and swap it out for something you like better. as long as it’s still in date.
hi, did anyone get really itchy, hives? i am starting to wonder if i may have been allergic to one of the vitamins…
yes, i am having itching and hives. i have been working with my coach but it’s looking like i’ll have to quit the program.
i’m actually doing great at day 25, except i’ve started having issues with swollen lips, flushing and it got so bad, i finally had to call my doctor. i was afraid my lips would burst. she has put me on steroids and antihistamines. my only food allergy i know of is shrimp. so, as i study the nutrients list, i see iodine is in everything. not sure what’s causing this, but have never had this happen before. i’m 59, very active, but after having two major surgeries the last two years, put on 20 lbs that i can’t seem to lose no matter how healthy i ate. i’ve lost 12 lbs. feel pretty good other than the burning swollen lips. they look sexy, but, it’s painful, and not sure what it could mean is happening inside. doc. says i have to stop the program until testing me for allergies. i’m so afraid the steroids will cause weight gain. i will attempt to mimic the fuelings as close as possible, and use a couple a day and do lean and green twice a day. i really should have been on the 4:2:1, instead of 5:1 as i am active and get a lot of exercise as we have horses and property. i’m hoping that if i do have to transition, they will work with me. nutritional support says they can modify a plan once i find what it is i’m allergic to. she actually insisted i contact my doctor. i’m loving that i have gotten a big kick start in losing weight and it’s motivated me to be more conscious of portion control. i was eating healthy foods, but too much of it, and not moving enough after recovering. i’m so hoping this is a good honest program as i’mee so many great friends on the fb page.
i just started the program and i find i am not hungry and the food is doable except for the oatmeal. however, every time i eat my i get congested really bad. i am concerned i am allergic to something?
hi becky, i am having the same problem with swollen lips, did you ever pinpoint what was causing it? i have been trying to narrow down which foods. i dont mind the taste of any of them and they have hacks for some of them that you can try. i am not having fast loss. it is slow and steady but working for me and i dont want to quit because of the swollen sore lips! i have a lot more weight to lose.
i am on it as well but think i might have a soy allergy. i have read it causes swollen lips, hives and stomach issues. most of the products have soy in them.
i began to breakout in hives and severe itching. found out it was an allergic reaction to soy according to my allergist.
check with your coach and they can work with nutrition support for advice. could be an allergy to soy.
yes i did get hives too. the dr gave me antihistamines and i went off the food for a few days. seems to be better. she didn’t approve of the program at all though. i have lost 22 lbs so i am going to stay on it but have decided to have two small lean and greens a day and incorporate grains and dairy on a limited basis for some of the fuelings. it is my own personal journey. it works for me!
wanting to know how you are doing i have been on plan about 5 weeks when i got hives i went of and tried to maintain my own but went back on . been back two days and hives have stared again . so frustrated . was doing great til the hives.
i not only was itchy (first day) i felt like i couldn’t breathe. good thing i had an antihistamine on hand. after the same thing happened the second day i returned the order (not for a full refund plus $60 in shipping : ( ). no more issues since i returned to normal food. i had no food allergies prior to this, but now i am wondering what is in this plan that caused my reaction.
yes and found out i was allergic to soy so i had to return all my products that contained soy.
no you can’t. they have changed their policy. no exchanges. my firs t order i hated the oatmeal. i tried to exchange it and i was told it was part of the5 free items they sent me so no refund. not happy since the food is expensive. i was going to order 3 items so i’d have enough for the month but it was going to cost me 30 in shipping. unhappy.
please talk to your coach, they should be able to help. this first week is tough because your body is changing. along with your taste buds.
i bought a small griddle. it’s amazing if you mix it like it’s suppose to be mixed and griddle it, it’s much better than the powder. just an fyi. i do have some digestive issues i wish i knew what to do about…
